Easily calculate your SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) and convert it to an equivalent percentage using your subject credits and grades. This SGPA calculator follows the standard UGC formula to provide accurate results, helping students evaluate their academic performance efficiently.
As per the UGC guidelines, letter grades are also being used by many institutions or universities that represent a particular grade point and a range of percentages. The accepted Letter Grades with their corresponding Grade Points & Percentage range are listed below.
| Percentage of Marks | Letter Grade as per UGC Guideleines | Grade Points |
|---|---|---|
| 90-100% | O (Outstanding) | 10 |
| 80-90% | A+ (Excellent) | 9 |
| 70-80% | A (Very Good) | 8 |
| 60-70% | B+ (Good) | 7 |
| 50-60% | B (Average) | 6 |
| 40-50% | C (Pass) | 5 |
| Below 40% | F (Fail) | 0 |
| Absent | AB | 0 |
SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) is a measure of academic performance in a semester. It is calculated using the grades obtained in all subjects of the semester.
SGPA is calculated by taking the sum of the product of grade points and credits for all subjects, divided by the total credits.
SGPA is converted using the formula: (SGPA - 0.75) * 10. This is based on the UGC guidelines.
Usually, an SGPA of 5.0 or above is considered passing, but it may vary by university. Refer to your institution’s guidelines.
‘AB’ stands for Absent, meaning the student was not present for the exam or assessment.
‘F’ means Fail, indicating that the student did not pass the subject.
To get the overall result of your qualifying course in percentage, you first need to calculate the SGPA of all the semesters using the above-mentioned points. Add the SGPA points of all the semesters to get the overall SGPA point.
After you have the overall SGPA value, put it in the formula of SGPA to percentage conversion and get your performance grade in percentage value.
For a better understanding of the students, they can see the examples provided here.
Example 1: SGPA = 8.1
Step 1: SGPA x 10 = 8.1 x 10 = 81
Step 2: (SGPA x 10) - 7.5 = 81 - 7.5 = 73.5%
Example 2: SGPA = 7.94
Step 1: SGPA x 10 = 7.94 x 10 = 79.4
Step 2: (SGPA x 10) - 7.5 = 79.4 - 7.5 = 71.9%
The steps mentioned to calculate the SGPA point from the grade points of each subject of a semester can be represented through a formula as mentioned below.
SGPA (Si) = Σ (Ci x Gi) / Σ Ci
