Yashasvi Jaiswal to Represent Goa in 2025-26 Domestic Season

Indian opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal will don the Goa jersey in the 2025-26 domestic cricket season, marking a significant shift from his long-standing association with Mumbai. The move comes after the Goa Cricket Association (GCA) extended an offer to the Rajasthan Royals star, who has been a cornerstone of Mumbai’s cricketing structure since his Under-19 days.

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) expressed surprise at Jaiswal’s decision to transfer, but promptly issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC), facilitating his move. GCA Secretary Shambu Desai confirmed the acquisition, stating, “We are developing a good squad for Goa and want to get the best talent available, and hence we approached him (Jaiswal) recently.”

Jaiswal’s departure concludes a fruitful chapter with Mumbai, where the 23-year-old made his first-class debut in 2019. Across ten matches, he amassed 863 runs at a remarkable average of 53.93, including four centuries and two fifties. His highest score of 181 came against Uttar Pradesh in 2022. His consistent performances, including three consecutive centuries in the 2021-22 Ranji Trophy, propelled Mumbai to the final, where they finished as runners-up. Jaiswal’s prowess extends to limited-overs cricket, with 1,296 runs in 25 List A matches at an average of 58.90 and 648 runs in 28 T20s at a strike rate of 136.42.

Jaiswal’s international career began with a spectacular 171 on debut against the West Indies in July 2023, followed by a double century (209) against England in 2024. He has cemented his place in India’s Test and T20I squads, though his ODI appearances remain limited to a single match.

On the IPL front, Jaiswal’s current season with Rajasthan Royals has seen a slow start, with scores of 1, 29, and 4 in his first three innings. The team’s next challenge is against Punjab Kings on April 5.

Jaiswal’s transfer to Goa aligns with the state’s growing cricketing ambitions and follows a trend of high-profile players seeking new opportunities. Cricketers like Siddesh Lad and Arjun Tendulkar have previously made similar moves. Goa’s recent dominance in the Ranji Trophy Plate League, culminating in an undefeated campaign and victory over Nagaland in the final, underscores their commitment to building a competitive team. The acquisition of Jaiswal is a strategic move aimed at bolstering their squad and furthering their ascent in Indian domestic cricket.

This move represents a significant development in the domestic cricket landscape, potentially reshaping the balance of power and providing Jaiswal with a fresh platform to showcase his talent. Goa’s investment in a player of Jaiswal’s caliber signals their intent to compete at the highest level and challenge the established hierarchy of Indian domestic cricket.
