Acknowledging the work and love of all individuals and organisations.
Animal rescue & shelter
There was a time when humanity was just another characteristic of a person, it used to be a normal thing . Now humanity is something very rare to find in a person . We speak about humanity as if it is as rare as hen’s teeth. Today this treatise is about animal cruelty and rescue. It is to raise one’s hat to all the animal rescue organization and not only renowned organizations but also those individuals which have contributed even a little bit of help towards this noble cause .
Animals of every kind and type , some are wild some are not but that doesn’t make them a target to all this brutality and inhumane behavior. They are equally important and worthy of all the love , care , respect and pampering we do to our loved ones . a small kitten or an old grown dog they are just like us . They also crave for never ending love and care . They keep us safe in their own way and they adore us in. Their own way . Let’s do the same for them . Give them shelter , food , love and care , which they deserve more than anyone else .
Animal rescuers work with wildlife or domesticated pets to heal injuries or find them new homes. The field has its stresses, such as seeing the results of animal abuse and abandonment, but the opportunity to save animals from danger or cruelty is gratifying.
We pay thousands and sometimes lakhs to buy our pets but what about those who were abandoned or lost and felt unwanted and then left on streets to rot . ADOPT MORE BUY LESS.
There are n numbers of problems and day to day hurdles faced by individuals and organizations who are making a big difference or are trying to make a big difference . But they don’t give up, they keep on helping , they keep on making sure that they get shelter over their head , they get a family who will adore them and make themselves a part of their family. Across globe, animals have been subjected to torture amd mistreatment at hands of humans far too many times to count and yet with little love , attention and care , these same animals again love humans with fierce dedication.
We apologize if we did not address or missed an individual or an organization here , but we respect all of them fully and are grateful for their work towards this noble cause.
1. Blue cross of India
It all started one rainy day in 1959 when the founder Captain Sundaram couldn’t just walk away from the two pups struggling to stay afloat in the flooded roads of T Nagar. He took them home and that gesture marked the beginning of Blue Cross, the animal shelter in his house which at one stage had 60 cats, dogs, goats, bandicoots and also a pair of baby mongooses!
With full-fledged support from his family (his wife Usha and the children built the first few kennels with their own hands), he was soon rescuing and sheltering animals in his T Nagar residence.
The initial people involved were Captain Sundaram: his wife Usha (who was recognised, in 2000, as “the first Indian woman in aerospace” by the National Aeronautics Association); and his three children, Suresh, Chinny Krishna and Vijayalakshmi. Initially, an informal group known as the Animal Aid Association, they were soon joined by Mr. D. Daivasigamony, then Secretary of the Indian Football Association.
The activities of the group slowly increased and the name of the group was changed to the Blue Cross of India in April 1964. A few months later, the Blue Cross of India was registered under the Societies Registration Act – No. 129 or 1964.
Blue Cross of India has significantly contributed to Wild Avian Management, Animal Experimentation Rules, Banning of Dissection, Animals in Films, Performing Animals, Animal Experimentation, Export of monkeys for research, Export of Frogs Leg, etc

2. PETA India
PETA India, based in Mumbai, was launched in January 2000. It operates under the simple principle that animals are not ours to experiment on, eat, wear, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way, while also educating policymakers and the public about animal abuse and promoting an understanding of the right of all animals to be treated with respect.
PETA India focuses primarily on the areas in which the greatest numbers of animals suffer the most: in laboratories, in the food industry, in the leather trade, and in the entertainment business. PETA India’s investigations, public education efforts, research, animal rescues, legislative work, special events, celebrity involvement, and national media coverage have resulted in countless improvements to the quality of life for animals and have saved countless animals’ lives.
PETA has brought remarkable changes here are few of them as the list goes on and on
They helped get a ban on animal tests for cosmetics and their ingredients and a ban on the importation of animal-tested cosmetics.
Similarly, worked to bring about the ban on testing household products on animals.
Has successfully urged the University Grants Commission to instate a ban on dissecting and experimenting on animals for training purposes in university and college zoology and life-science undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
They campaigned to free suffering elephants Mariappan, Sunder, Ram Prasad, and Gajraj, who were exploited and neglected by temples, and we worked with Rajasthan authorities to cancel a festival that perpetuates cruelty to elephants.
Also got the Election Commission of India to ban all political parties and candidates from using animals for election campaigns and the National Students’ Union of India to refrain from using animals as part of a rally or protest or for any other purpose.

3. Stray Relief and Animal Welfare (STRAW) India
Stray Relief and Animal Welfare (STRAW) was founded by Vasanthi and Dinesh. As a husband and wife team, they have worked together on a number of projects, both personal and professional and STRAW is a passion that is closest to their hearts.
As management graduates, both Vasanthi and Dinesh have held senior positions in the corporate world. All that while, they have been associated with a number of charity organizations that extend help to destitute children, the old, the blind and the weary animals. However, when it came to setting up their own charity and when a choice had to be made, caring for those that were least cared for in this world, that is the voiceless animals, took precedence and STRAW was born.
Stray Relief and Animal Welfare (STRAW) India is a registered nonprofit /non-government organization and its focus is summed up in its motto, Animal Welfare through Education. It promotes empathy and compassion for all living beings and care for the environment by educating young people through its humane education programs and workshops.
Located at New Delhi, India, STRAW is:
- recognized and certified by the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI)
- member of the Federation of Indian Animal Protection Organizations (FIAPO)
- partner of Humane Education Coalition
- former member society of the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA), UK
STRAW promotes empathy and compassion for all living beings and care for the environment by educating young people through following humane education programs and workshops:
● Compassionate Classrooms
This program introduces humane education contents into school textbooks that are either republished or are newly published by the various central and state educational boards in India.
● Animals Welfare Workshops and Presentations
The aim of this program is to sow seeds of empathy towards people, compassion towards animals and a respect for the environment.
● Painting and Essay Writing for Animals and the Environment
This program provides a wonderful platform to sensitize school children about the importance of animals and the need for a clean environment in our everyday lives, and its inter-dependency on all living beings, on this planet.
● Celebrating Important World Days
There are a few days in the year, when we are able to fully dedicate, celebrate and revel in the magnificence of our planet, our environment and the plethora of life that exists upon it. Along with this, these days are used as a platform to spread awareness on multiple issues that are harming the environment and causing life forms to suffer unnecessary pain.
● Nature Walks and Outdoor Learning
In today’s fast moving Internet world, children, especially in urban settings, have limited opportunities to connect with the natural environment. We provide that bridge through our humane education programs, by including a nature walk to a forest in the vicinity of the school.
